Environmental Stewardship Summit Gets Top National Support
Conservation Fund, National Wildlife Federation Among Supporting Organizations

ASHBURN, Va., / The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has announced that eight national organizations dedicated to conservation and sustainability efforts will serve as Supporting Organizations for the first-ever National Summit on Environmental Stewardship for People, Parks and Public Lands (http://www.nrpa.org/esummit) May 4-7 at the Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront in Portland, Oregon. The event will bring together leaders and advocates of parks, recreation, conservation and sustainable practices to address the challenges of building environmental stewardship and advancing local leadership in sustainability.

Supporting Organizations are offering advance notice of the event to their members and advocates, and will be providing onsite support through speakers and other resources. The eight Supporting Organizations are:

-- The Conservation Fund (http://www.conservationfund.org)

-- The Environmental Protection Agency's Greenscapes Program

-- The National Wildlife Federation (http://www.nwf.org)  

-- The Outdoor Industry Association (http://www.outdoorindustry.org)  

-- The Student Conservation Association (http://www.thesca.org)  

The agenda for the Summit is designed to form dialogue and awareness around the need for attention and effort in three key areas:

-- Promoting Sustainable Landscapes

-- Fostering the Next Generation of Stewards

-- Providing Leadership for Sustainable Communities
