Green Jobs Now National Day of Action Corps Spotlight

On September 26, we will watch the first presidential debate of this election.

The next day, the candidates will watch us.

On Saturday, September 27, Green Jobs Now is launching a national mobilization to say, "I'm ready for the green economy." Americans are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

Green Jobs Now is a National Day of Action that will empower everyday people to stage hundreds of grassroots events throughout the country. We will have a special focus on low-income communities, communities of color and indigenous people. This will send a message to our leaders that, when it comes to creating green jobs for a more sustainable economy, PEOPLE ARE READY!

Not sure where to start? Try something like the Civicorps’ plan!

On September 27, CiviCorps will be leading a service project by doing trail work, clearing brush and working on trail markers at Eco Village—a farm learning center located in a densely populated, ethnically diverse city area best known for its oil refinery. In this community crime, gangs and drug abuse are a constant plague, while freeways and railroad tracks isolate the area and limit green space. Eco Village is an educational farm dedicated to providing residents of the San Francisco East Bay with practical knowledge and skills that will help them live more sustainable and healthier lives, while protecting the Earth’s natural resources and ecosystems for present and future generations. "EcoVillage is a model for growing healthy youth and healthy communities. People are an important part of the environment and we want to broaden the range of people involved in environmental and social justice work to include urban residents and people of various cultural backgrounds." Shyaam Shabaka EcoVillage Founder & Executive Director.

Leading up to the National Day of Action, Civicorps will also be collaborating with the East Bay Regional Parks District in the 24th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day. On September 20, Civicorps members will help rid the shoreline of trash and debris. It is a day to take responsibility for the health of coastal areas—and a way to show that collectively we can make positive change.
